Nervosa -Agony (Napalm Records)

English:CD-review
  Van Muylem    20 juni 2016

I know Nervosa since they launched their debut albumVictim of Yourself in 2014 and absolutely adored them! They gave me the perfect female fronted - and technically worth a master degree - Thrash metal! Today they offer us their second album!

Erik Van Damme already presented his review in Flemish. I couldn’t resist and jumped in for the English Corner review. I’m grateful we can share reviews this way!

Napalm Record gave them pretty fast their shot with Agony. I can already say that the title doesn’t say anything about the quality delivered, but it’s has to be seen as the thin red line through the lyrics.

Arrogance sounds hard, heavy & lethal! I hear a screaming and grunting panther! This first track is a straight forward hit in our face! I also cherrish the bass! I can say the same from Theory Of Conspiracyand you can feel that they really mean it! The guitar and drums are master chefs serving us their best meal ever! Deception is a bit softer, whilst Intolerance means War (a cool and true title) goes a bit faster. Guerra Santa is short but o so sharp and sung in their mother language! It feels as if we can get more of these on the next album! Failed system could be a song about Belgium, but I feel that this happening in their own hometown as they bring it with so much power and passion! This is for sure influenced by old school punk tracks and mixed with trash and death metal anno 2016! It all sounds sharp and fresh!

Hostages, Surrounded by Serpents (has even some blues elements), Cyberwar and Devastation  are school examples of what great thrash metal is supposed to sound like! It’s clear that this Brazilian trio wants to conquer the world and with no doubt: they will actually! Highlight of the album is for sure Hypocrisy as it’s by far the strongest track and clearly ready to be played on stage and set the crowd on fire! I feel that the lyrics are coming straight from their heart or are part of their personal histories! I can feel the fire burning, I can even smell it! Our panthers are ready to tear some bad people into pieces and eat their empty heart! Wayfarer is the most surprising track on the album as we hear a clean voice reproducing a young version of the greatJanis Joplin(inclusive a bluesy rock vibe) before returning to the panther version. Stay tuned until the end and listen to the magical a capella end! It’s clear that we haven’t even discovered everything about this trio!

A lot of people expected a lot after their first album and they delivered even more: I simply got blown out of my socks! Nervosa has clearly a bright future! Rock on!
