Before Covid-19 I saw them on stage in Leuven (Belgium), together with my son (who by then was 10 years old, If I recall it well). We enjoyed it, however my son preferred the other band where Isaac was also in (MaYaN). It’s never been a better time to be an Epica fan! Their 20th anniversary celebrations are HUGE. Today, they’re officially releasing their Early Years Collection, featuring (for the first time EVER) the legendary ‘Live at Paradiso,’ as well as their first TV appearance ‘We Will Take You With Us’ and the first three albums: ‘The Phantom Agony,’ ‘Consign to Oblivion’ and ‘The Score.’
Epica is a Dutch band, so playing at Paradisio is like a house concert and I can imagine it must have been amazing. Now that I have listened to the live recording a few times I can say it was truly amazing!
Count in the guests, the changes on stage to make sure each song sounds perfect and each member getting a place in the spotlights! The set is also well balanced: hard rocking metal tracks, screams and grunts or simply a ballad that will give you tears in your eyes and move you! In this recording we also get all the encores. You get nearly two hours of live music! The only thing you will miss are the visuals (fireworks, visual feedback of the fans, the dress, …).
Epica rocks and has enough variation and this recording simply shows how good they are and give you an excellent taste of what to expect!
