Feuerschwanz - Todsünden (Napalm Records)

English:CD-review

Following the success of their previous #1 charting album, Memento Mori, and countless festivals and shows in 2022, FEUERSCHWANZ thanks their fans with the release of their cover album, Todsünden, via Napalm Records. Giving 16 sinful tracks an impressive makeover, the band paints them in their own characteristic sound of heroic bagpipes, powerful harmonies and melodic violin interludes. The guestlist is also really impressive!

The Abba cover Gimme Gimme started after a gamble and as they lost they indeed released this song. This metal version is really typical for them anno 2022! They reworked this sing into theirs with a real metal sound, screams, grunts and a really great catchy feel! Fans will off course be really pleased with this one and I’m pretty sure Abba too!

Twilight Of The Thundergod (Amon Amarth Cover) was a to be expected cover from one of the best bands withing the viking metal bands genre! Whilst listening to the original it was pretty hard to understand the lyrics and I’m happy I can now finally get the version where I can actually understand what they sing! I like the violin touch.

The Bad Touch (Bloodhound Gang Cover) is a funny joke! I have the original on my playlist and this new version changes it totally into a heavy metal song mixed with some death metal grunts! This is just great; but the chorus reveals the influences of the original! I’m pretty sure you will get a large smile on your face! I can hear some Ghost influences too!

Limit was originally a hip hop track from Deichkind and has completely been rebuilt to achieve (once again) a much better version (the original is really boring as hell). Gratz!

Der Graf (Die Ärzte Cover): you can shoot me, but I had to look this one up on Youtube! It’s a ballad linked to Dracula (at least until halfway and suddenly changes into a mid-tempo rocker). Once again I prefer this new version (but the vocals on the original are great too). It’s nice they show this way they can also bring a ballad into their set!

Hier Kommt Alex (Die Toten Hosen) is a strong German 80’s classic hit song. They add a folky touch and rawer voices to it and kept the catchy way of the original chorus (and bagpipes). Once again the result is mind blowing!

Next one is from Ed Sheeran, what? Ed Sheeran, yes indeed: you read it well. I See Fire gets an almost spiritual folk version and make it sound as if you need to regret that this version made it into the Lords of The Rings movie and not the cover version they are bringing. I love the way they bring the chorus and the lyrics as it seems really fitting better to the legendary trilogy! Once again a great WOW momentum!

Square Hammer (Ghost Cover) is a logic cover as their actual sound is swinging a bit between Manowar, Powerwolf and Ghost! Their version comes close enough to the original (minus the bagpipes, but I prefer this newer version!

Warriors Of The World United (Manowar Cover) is one of the more to be expected covers as the lyrics fits their genre and the original was already a blast! On top they get some extra vocals from none less but Melissa Bonny (yup: again) and extra powerplay by Angus Mcfife (ex-Gloryhammer) and Saltatio Mortis. This cover is one of the reasons why I wanted this album! It’s still my favourite track and I already played it a lot and will for sure play it more!

Dragostea Din Tei (O-Zone Cover) is an even bigger joke as the previous one (and yes: I know the original well enough). Can’t believe they did it and kept their own touch without bursting out in a massive laughing wave! This might be a good joke for a live set, just in between bloody serious songs! I’m wandering what O-Zone thinks about it?

Next is an ode to Powerwolf with their song Amen & Attack. They once again add their folky approach and make the song harder and catchier then the original. With this version they send the wolf pack back home! WOW!

This one is an instant classic German track from none other but Rammstein: Engel. No whistling, but a folky intro instead. The music sounds as if coming from The Vikings soundtrack and it’s great! The backings are done by angels and gives it a special touch.

Next is Gott Mit Uns from Sabaton. Adding a folky touch, an acoustic guitar and smooth backings makes it more a FEUERSCHWANZ song then a Sabaton song, how incredible that might sound, but that is how I feel it after listening to both tracks. This new version is simply much better than the original!

Ding (is a SEED cover) and features the phenomenal Melissa Bonny. It’s a hot, strong and very funny track that might actually make it into the hit charts! If you check out the original one you will notice they really turned it from hip-hop into a song of their own and that alone gives them a lot of credit!

Blinding Lights (The Weeknd Cover) is the perfect version for this song and almost sounds as if they wrote the song. I hear nothing of the original version (no electronica) and that is a good thing! This one is a total blast and fits the live test in a perfect way!

The Final Countdown (Europe) has been recently launched with a clip and reminds me somehow of Van Canto. The start is a medieval adaptation mixed with the typical Van Canto vocals, but we also get some real heavy metal guitar sound! The violin is a nice extra touch. The vocals fit the dressing of this song! This might be the last song of their regular set or why not the very last song of the encores! I love it!

This review was one of the easiest ever as in the end I only had to review 3 songs (I bought and reviewed their last albums). I hope to see them back on stage soon enough and enjoy their powered up gigs!
