November 3 will mark the highly anticipated release of "Chiaroscuro," the brand new album by Iowa-based Grindcore/Powerviolence sensation CLOSET WITCH, set to be unleashed through Moment Of Collapse Records! In anticipation of this upcoming release, the band has unveiled a music video for their intense single "We Met On The Park Boundary Trail".
Bassist Cory Peak on "We Met On The Park Boundary Trail": "Mollie wrote this song about an occurrence at a state park near where we live - we went to the park and I filmed her in several different areas then used that footage as reference to animate the music video using a technique called rotosciping in which you trace over frames of live action video."
Vocalist Mollie Piatetsky adds: "The song was written about an emotional experience I had following a deer trail while embracing seeing the deer, alert, with their babies...encompassed in my own maternal grief but also finding comfort and solace enough to calm down through my surroundings. My thoughts festered to and fro comparing my own grief journey to hunting season and their fear/loss."
Midwest Emo and Midwest Hardcore/Punk dominated the US music scene from the 80s to the 00s. However, it would be a grave mistake to associate these genres with CLOSET WITCH's unique sound. Hailing from Iowa, this quartet delivers an unparalleled blend of raging grindcore-punk that is second to none. Since their formation in 2014, CLOSET WITCH has released a demo, several splits and EPs, as well as one critically acclaimed album. Now, their latest offering "Chiaroscuro" is poised to captivate grind and powerviolence enthusiasts worldwide.
Chaotic, aggressive, cathartic – this album is anything but easy-listening. Lead vocalist Mollie Piatetsky fearlessly cuts through with her raw delivery, avoiding descending into a mere spite-fest. Her unchained howls possess tireless energy and purpose, simultaneously intimidating and rhythmically infectious. Piatetsky's distinctive style shapes the album's overall flow and injects each track with an extra boost. Notably, "Chiaroscuro" features guest appearances from Dylan Walker (Full Of Hell), Dan Lee (Wanderer), and other talented artists who contribute to the twelve dynamic songs on the record.
