Dark Solaris – II. Sad Thoughts (Records DK)

English:CD-review
  Van Muylem    6 oktober 2025

Darksolaris was created in 2021 by Dan, he began to make some tracks and called his friend Michel from Skeptical Minds to add his great powerful guitar sound on the project. Perfect alchemy gave birth of their first album named Redemption after a long year of hard work. The music is a mix of electro, orchestral, dark atmosphere and metal like Oomph!, Die krupps and Faith no more. Themes of the album speak about Redemption from internal problems from Dan who needed to write these on music. The first album album is currently shared on social media like Spotify, YouTube music or Apple music...

SNOOZECONTROL - Darksolaris – Redemption (Records DK)

What we hear now all found it’s first layer in 2023. Dan and his team have been slowly but neatly working on it and now (in 2025) unveiling it all. The lyrics focus on Dan’s past and on his childhood. Looking for a darker sound and working with new people as Sophie, Ophelie from Metrydia (recording even a newer version of Ghost) and Didj from Anamnesis who added his powerful bass sound too. Michel is still part of the gang!

As I got pinged with the question if I still do reviews I received some files and gave them a shot:

A Little Rain starts up slowly and becomes a dark song that mixes hard with soft passages. The sound is a mix of gothic and metal with a nice synth in th ebackground. I like the global sound and the vocals (from whispering to screaming and almost grunting). The spooky sound towards the end is pretty cool.

I’m Not A Looser is a heavy track mixing metal with NIN-vibes. The lyrics say it all.

Let Me Rest In Peace mixes Vlad in Tears with NIN and thus giving a great result!

Ghost almost sounds alike the previous track. I hear more synths and also extra female vocals. Logic as it’s featuring Ophelie (previous version was with Karolina from Skeptical Minds). The song starts slowly with a simple sound, but when the guitars take over it gets serious. Ophelie’s voice sounds nice. It almost feels like a gothic/symphonic duet between Delain (old school version) and Rammstein. The short breakdown gives the restart a great push!

Shadow mixes a Wagnerian (opera versus metal vocals) sound with a bit of metal: the emotions are reigning here! It’s a strong one!

Enough starts with a cello, quickly changed into rambling guitars and with a heavy sound. Somehow the vocals sound like coming from 3 different people. It’s a heavy track, but the tempo is a bit too low tob e compaired with heavy metal. I would rather call it melodic gothic-rock.

Hypocrite works off negative stuff from the past on a gothic metal layer. Soundwise it mixes metal, industrial and martial drumsounds (neo folk minded).

Well: I like the result! It’s indeed darker and contains more emotions and thus more emotional outbursts. I hear here and there a bit of a French accent in the clean vocals, as fort he rest there is nothing negative to add. It’s a step up! Welldone!
