Vandaag komt Tom Odells tweede album WRONG CROWD uit. WRONG CROWD is de opvolger van Toms UK debuut ‘Long Way Down’ uit 2013, wat hem de prestigieuzeNovello Award voor ‘Songwriter of the Year’ en een ‘Brits Critics’ Choice Award’ opleverde.
WRONG CROWD bevat 11 nieuwe songs + 4 bonus tracks. De videoclips voor ‘Wrong Crowd’ en ‘Magnetised’ werden opgenomen in Zuid-Afrika onder regie van George Belfield (Arthur Beatrice, Richard Hawley, Kwabs). De verhaallijn loopt door, doorheen de verschillende video’s: het verhaal begint in de videoclip van ‘Wrong Crowd’, en loopt door in ‘Magnetised’. In die laatste is ook een stukje te horen van het nummer ‘Constellations’.
Tom speelde de afgelopen maanden al enkele shows in Europa, New York en Los Angeles met een ongelooflijke respons van de pers: de UK Telegraph schreef over zijn concert in Londen :“electrifying…with a big, bold, bravura performance … a whole layer of charismatic rock swagger…Odell might be the missing link between showboating Seventies Elton and the epic emotionalism of Coldplay. In a set where new songs were greeted just as rapturously as old favourites, Odell did more than enough to suggest …his (Brit) Critics Choice Award might not be his last.”
Odell producete het album samen met Jim Abbiss, die eerder al albums producete voor oa Arctic Monkeys, Kasabian en Adele.
Tom over zijn nieuwe album: “I wanted the songs to sound big and dramatic; big strings and melodies emphasizing the songs further – rich in musicality and holding nothing back. The album follows a narrative of a man held at ransom by his childhood, yearning for it, yearning for nature- a desire for innocence in this perverse world in which he now lives. It’s a fictional story but the emotions and feelings are obviously ones I have felt – though the stories are elaborated and exaggerated. I wanted to create a world with a heightened sense of reality.”
