PHANTOMIME, a five-song covers EP intended from the start to follow last year’s international chart-topping opus IMPERA. A diverse and spellbinding sampling of the GRAMMY Award-winning band’s musical DNA, PHANTOMIME is comprised of covers of classics and deep cuts by Television, Genesis, The Stranglers, Iron Maiden and Tina Turner. PHANTOMIME pays tribute in equal measure to every one of these unlikely bedfellow, influences while stamping them all with Ghost’s undeniable sonic signature.

See No Evil (Television) opens this EP and starts with a good vibe, cool backings and an overall good sound. Ghost didn’t change much of the song (almost sounds like a 2023 remake, even the vocals sound pretty similar).

Jesus He Knows Me (Genesis) is a song that I clearly remember from my own youth, covering it is a bit tricky. They give a more guitar minded sound with a great bassline! Once again the vocals match pretty well the vocals of the original singer! I fully understand why they picked out this song as a single! 80’s lovers will adore it! I also love the fact they kept the catchy touch of the original!

Hanging Around (The Stranglers) comes pretty close to the original, just listen to the synth and the guitar. All has been kept as close as possible to the original.

Phantom of the Opera (Iron Maiden) gets an 2023 update with other vocals and yet some that come close to the original. The update is a good thing and maybe Iron Maiden might use it for the near future?

We Don’t Need Another Hero (Thunderdome) (Tina Turner) is one of Tina Turner’s best songs and also loved the clip and the movie she played in where this song was used. Hearing this new version is not bad, but I prefer the original one.

I’m curious if they play these songs on stage and how they sound. This cover EP is basically a 2023 version of the original tracks. Only the Genesis cover is a bit more different from the original, but that is due to the more synth minded touch of the original. It’s not bad but I’m not blown out of my socks.
