Subatomic Strangers – Resuwrecked (self-release)

English:CD-review

Exactly 3 years after their first (and very impressing) first album aka 'Special Satellite' time is here to tell you something about their second album: Resuwrecked'! If you have never seen them on stage, I suggest you book yourself a ticket fort heir gig in DVG club (Kortrijk)! They had to change 2 members, so expect something, next tot he new songs! I had very high expectations, did they meet them …? Check underneath:

Now for those who still have to discover them:

Subatomic Strangers:
Alternatieve Belgian rock & Wave band with an 80's vibe and sound! Their influences go from Foo Fighters,  Depeche Mode to The Cult and Iron maiden. But most of all: they do their own thing! Don’t forget to check their lyrics too!

They managed to play at big venues and great festivals like:Sportpaleis (Now AFAS), pekkersfeesten, minirock, grensrock 2025, 2x UK tours, and with gigs in France and Germany,...

Their catchy synth tunes, spooky guitar riffs, strong baslines, groovy drums and sweet/sensual vocals (Sharon Braye) wil conquer your heart!

First let’s have a look at the album title as it has a clear meaning: resurection and wreking put together. After each bad things you can resurect and get better, stronger! This is what happened tot his band: they losty 2 band members and got each time back: bette rand stronger, just like a Phoenix from the flames!

Fool: sounds warm, explodes from the start and has an excellent tempo. You get on top the great voice from Sharon Braye and with every no wand then the backings done by Arne Stroobant (Nicholas will replace his voice once on stage as Arne left the band after the album was recorded). I almost forgot to mention the excellent guitar sound and the genious global sound! Do we need more? It’s excellent as it is!

What Goes Around gives us a New Wave slice (just listen to the synths) and sweet (almost erotic kind a) vocals with a rock layer on top. Whilst hearing the guitar solo I already hear people clap their hands, this should work out the same way once put together on stage!

Air sounds like a sweet and romantic song, almost ballad minded with an accoustic touch. Nicholas did the backings here.

Final Fantasy starts in a strange way, rocks pretty hard and might be a referral to one of the best games but might be also a referral to an erotic wish. Arne on backings (worth mentionning it).

Why You sounds a bit harder, post wave minded with a bit of rock and has a good tempo!

S.O.S. rocks nicely and will be a hit on stage! I also adore the backings, the tempo and the global sound!

Alive is a sweet one with a romantic touch and a catchy feel. Once again the backings really add that extra slice of greatness. And no it’s not a Pearl Jam cover!

Ashes of the Past has that special touch and great backings (just listen tot he final part). Great guitar play, supberb vocals and great global sound. They will need the audience to sing along on stage to match the same power from the backings!

Stand As One is an all fired up track with guitars on fire and the best vocals possible! Another one that will set the room on fire once played on a stage!

The Edge is the last one and tells us to look inside our heart, life is too short … I like it! The accoustic part is also nice, just as the oriental approach halfway. The song has some modern Gary Numan influences. I can’t forget to mention the screams done by Brent Maes.

It’s a great album, globally speaking. I just had very high hopes and feel that the previous album had a bit more individual pearls. Still looking forward to see them one day on stage! Don’t forget that the second album is most of the times the hardest one to realize (when the first one smashed it).
