As usual, the German artist proves once again his unique ability to select the right singer best fitting his music. This time, he joins hands with Patrik Hansson of Swedish Electropop band VANGUARD for another stunning upbeat club synth pop song with a highly emotional dimension. Alternate remixes of the songs get delivered by electro specialist in the likes of PEOPLE THEATRE, SPEKTRALIZED, WE THE NORTH, UNCREATED and EXCUBITORS, each bringing its own flavour and colour to the original tune. But ELEKTROSTAUB also brought the challenge one step further by recording a totally different and so inspiring version featuring this time the unmatched female voice of Claudia Uhle from X-PERIENCE fame.
For the B-side song “Loneliness”, Patrick Knoch capitalised once again on the winning team he forms with his good old partners in crime from !DISTAIN for a more melancholic and soulful mid-tempo tune. Besides the club mix and the floating “no drum” edit of this song, we also get more laidback and introspective interpretations of this catchy song by PEOPLE THEATRE as well as from label mates TECHNOIR and DIGITAL FACTOR.
We Are Dreamers (feat. Patrik from Vanguard) (radio edit) definitely sounds like a great Electropop track and Patrik Hansson’s voice really sounds fitting! I like this tracks and in this version it sounds already like very club minded, even the radios have to pick it up! Next is a remix of the same track: We Are Dreamers (feat. Patrik from Vanguard) (People Theatre’s void mix). I hear a bigger focus on the vocals. The sound goes deeper into a melancholic feel and seems to have a deeper bass and more drums. I’m not a fan of remixes but this one is really good! Loneliness (feat. !Distain) (club edit) is what they call the B-side. The song has a slower tempo and a clear sad touch. You can feel the negative feelings. I like it as the vocals match with the sound and the lyrics! It sounds again like a match made in heaven! Time for new vocals with: We Are Dreamers (feat. Claudia Uhle). I must say that this is a total different approach and feels as if one just wanted to go both ways: a male fronted version and a female fronted version. The choice of both singers are just amazing and shows that it’s a great song! We go back to the first version of the same track, but this time in a new remix: We Are Dreamers (feat. Patrik from Vanguard) (Spektralized mix). It’s a good version!
Loneliness (feat. !Distain) (People Theatre’s spot mix)gets a Europop touch and doesn’t sound bad at all! Another good version comes with a poppier 80’s sound: We Are Dreamers (feat. Patrik from Vanguard) (We The North mix). Loneliness (feat. !Distain) (Technoir mix): it has been a while since I heard new stuff from Technoir and it’s clear that we hear here the typical Technoir touch, but it’s not the best remix of this song. We Are Dreamers (feat. Patrik from Vanguard) (Uncreated mix) gives a more techno minded touch and plays a bit with the vocals.
Loneliness (feat. !Distain) (Digital Factor mix) is another good remix that creates a more melancholic touch (I adore melancholia). We Are Dreamers (feat. Patrik from Vanguard) (Excubitors mix) is not bad, but right now I’m already getting tired of hearing the same song over and over. The very last one is: Loneliness (feat. !Distain) (no drums edit) gets more synths (and indeed: drums are taken out). The extra vocals are also great and really gives it that little extra push towards the top!
The EP is really good and I liked the different visions and approaches. It’s just that all the remixes in the end are getting a bit too much, but it’s a stimulus for the next album, without any doubt!
