[PIAS] - Singles of the week #6

English:CD-preview
  Van Muylem    9 februari 2022

The new Foxes album starts like a bomb and has a lot of potential. I already reviewed the album and will put it soon online. The single of the week is as you guessed right Growing On Me! I described it in my review like this:  it's a slow grower with lot’s of changes in the tempo and the mood. But I let you discover it and wont say more about it!

IDLES - CRAWL (RADIO EDIT)

IDLES have a gruesome new video for Crawl (DGG Edit) - a lonesome skeleton biker rides into the sunset while his skin slowly peels from his body. It's an animated gem! The band have just smashed four sold out nights at Brixton Academy. "A life-affirming punk band who will rock the post-pandemic era" - The Times ★★★★

FATHER JOHN MISTY - Q4

Q4 is the latest single from the forthcoming new album Chloë and The Next 20th Century which was written and recorded at the end of 2020 and features arrangements by Drew Erickson. The album sees Josh Tillman and producer/multi-instrumentalist Jonathan Wilson resume their long time collaboration.

FOXES - GROWING ON ME

The Kick is Foxes’ first album in over five years. Serving as a form of escapism, the record was written and recorded via zoom with producer Ghost Culture (Daniel Avery, Kelly Lee Owens) during the height of the pandemic. Inspired by the desire for freedom that the world collectively shared over the last 18 months of lockdowns, the near-animalistic desperation to socialise, and a longing to dance again, Louisa naturally pivoted the sonics to feed that escapism and create a record that simultaneously feels close to the euphoric, dancefloor-filling pop roots while still feeling completely fresh. Brand new single Growing On Me is the perfect tastemaker to dive into the world of Foxes.

MYLAR - PLASTIC CHAMP

The latest signing to Blue Flowers (Westerman, Nilüfer Yanya, Puma Blue) is London quartet Mylar who will release their debut EP Elsewhere on 8th April. Plastic Champ is the first single. “Most of our lyrics are about people feeling trapped by circumstance, or having a sense of time running away, or pivotal moments where you’re hyper-aware of the direction things will take” the band explain. Plastic Champ, explores the limited language and images around masculinity.  "This song came together really quickly from a cartoonish synth line from our drummer Rob”, explains Tom Short, the band’s lead vocalist and the writer of the song’s lyrics.

AUDIOBOOKS - TRYNA TRYNA TAKE CONTROL

Audiobooks released their brilliant album Astro Tough on Heavenly on the 1st October, but this is a brand new track written and recorded at the end of 2021 and draws musical inspiration from 70s Brazilian legends Caetano Veloso and Milton Nasciomento, as well as smooth 80s pop stars Sade and Terence Trent D’Arby... all put together with a very post punk attitude.
