Blind Guardian – The God Machine (Nuclear Blast)

Every album from this German symphonic metal band is like travelling: into time, into history or towards the future! It’s always epic and always worth it!

Deliver Us From Evil is the opening track and sounds like a classic Blind Guardian track: melodic, heavy, with a tempo that goes up and down (like waves of a stormy sea), with backings that remind me of QueenHansi Kusch still has a great voice! I can still feel the passion, the power and the epic drive! This one is literally on fire and must be a hit on stage! I have a feeling this one might be a fans favourite track! Damnation builds up slowly, but hits hard once in full drive with a classic Blind Guardian sound with excellent guitar play! Secrets of the American Gods sounds like a typical blown up symphonic metal track with passionate vocals and an heroic feel. Architects of Doom explodes from the start and is one of the hardest songs so far. Let it be no more starts softly with enchanted backings and a sweet touch mixed with a slice of melancholia. I really like this one! It’s a nice prove of their softer side. Blood of the Elves rages like in the spring of their youth (check the drums) and goes back to their more traditional sound. The chorus is just perfect: catchy and powerful! Destiny mixes a softer sound with a harder one without loosing the passion for the lyrical content.

I must say it was a bit hard reviewing this album track by track as I had the feeling I was listening to the same songs over and over (minus the lyrics). Maybe I listened too much to their previous albums or maybe I’m falling off and should look after other bands? I still love this band, but it’s that feeling and I hate to put it here on paper as it really hurts me.
