Zone Tripper – The Call (Sub Culture Records)

English:CD-review

Whilst doing an Technomancer interview Alexandria J. Digre unveiled there will be also a new Zone Tripper album. I was a bit fooling around on Facebook as I didn’t had an album review for 28/10/2022 as Friday’s seems to be the album release day and asking that question led me to this album review!

It's being released on CD for the very first time, remastered and with bonus-tracks, have only been digitally released before!

Resurrection takes you as first song of this album back to the 80’s with electronic drums and a synthesizer that recreates the sound from back then. Watching in the meantime Miami Vice or some manga series.

The Call ads some guitar play to the reigning electronic drums and synth and has a good tempo. It’s time to fill the dancefloor with dancing people whilst getting some old school Star Trek visuals! I just miss some vocals, but that is just the typical thing here: no vocals but always great retro trips!

Cyber Dream has great percussion, mixed with a robot saying some words: Cyber Dream! It’s a very dancefloor minded track with a cool break and the perfect bass! The synth plays an important role in creating the right sound!

First Contact gives us more beats, a higher tempo and a positive vibe! This one might also be a dancefloor filler!

Virtual Wasteland has a warm sound, with a lot of variation and a high tempo. The extra shredding guitar sound is also pretty cool!

Phaselock is a timeless retro synth track with a positive vibe and a mid-tempo. It would fit if used during an old school video game and I think that might have been the idea when it was recorded. Same can be said from X-Zone.

Nova Spirits is a softer song with a floating feel: like tripping Star Trek minded from one planet to another all across the universe and with a mind at peace.

After this we get 3 revigorated versions (2 of them figure on in the original version on this album): The Call (edit), First Contact (edit) and as last one Voyager (edit). They all get upgraded in one or another way.

Lazer Love has a high tempo and a melodic sound with great percussions and dito beats.

Pushing Onwards has a deep bass, great percussion and a synth that plays tunes from out of space!

The Streets sounds more zen, with a bit of a floating sound. The song feels like you are whistling whilst walking in a park with the sun shining on you.

Retro synth lovers will adore this album and enjoy every single note! The album takes you back in time as if you are in the movie called back to the future, Miami Vice, CHIPS, The A-Team, Star Trek, Battle Star Galactica … Enjoy!
