Link Wray is an additional bonus track to Vitja Pauwels’ instrumental album entitled Early Life Forms, that was released in January 2024.
Brussels based guitarist Vitja Pauwels put together a band with guitars, Hammond organ and drums, that was occasionally joined by the American guitarist Marc Ribot (Tom Waits, John Zorn, Elvis Costello…).
Link Wray is an ode to rockand roll music as the title refers to one of the fathers of the genre. Vitja drew inspiration from postmodern Western movies like Dead Man (soundtrack by Neil Young) and vintage rock elements.
The track begins with a stretched-out improvisation between the guitarists Vitja Pauwels and Marc Ribot, where ominous tones carry the listener to a climax. In the second part, a Stairway to Heaven-like song emerges with exploding drum fills and smashing guitar solos.
