THUNDERMOTHER - Dirty & Divine (AFM)

English:CD-review

Reborn, revitalised and ready to rock ‘n’ roll, Thundermother are back with a deafening bang. It took me some time to get used to the change in the lead vocals, but it all matured and now I can say I added the new album to my playlist and reviewed the album! On top of that: can't wait to see them on stage!

Two years on from the release of their last studio album Black & Gold, the Swedish quartet have completed work on a follow-up and are primed to explode all over again. A blistering onslaught of loud, proud and groovy hard rock, Dirty & Divine marks the start of a new era for Thundermother and the recorded debut of two new members: frontwoman Linnea Vikström Egg and drummer Joan Massing. Bigger, bolder and more dynamic than ever before, the Swedes return as an upgraded and remotivated force.

So Close is a good starter: building up and yet showing off: sweet (the backings) and yet on fire (lead vocals! The guitar play is excellent, like always! I don’t hear much difference behind the drums (but that’s a good sign). Groovy and yet rocking with some passages that will make you jump into their play and do whatever the bands asks you to do whilst performing it on stage.

Can't Put Out The Fire sounds sweet but talks about joining the army. Can’t stop these ladies and for sure not on stage (that’s according to me what this song is about). Excellent live vibe’s towards the end!

But hey, seems like I was wrong & this is what they have to say about the song themselves: "Can’t Put Out The Fire" is Thundermothers love letter to rock n' roll and more specifically - KISS! It's a trip down nostalgia lane to the time where our childhood rock n' roll dreams were made. You wanted the best, and you got it - THUNDERMOTHER!"

Speaking of the Devil: gossip is not there thing, let them do, let them have their ride and rock you! No gossiping, no backstabbing, … just rocking and performing on stage!

Feeling Alright is a romantic softie with really good vibes!

Take The Power brings back the big bang: hard and heavy rock, fuelled and on fire! It’s the heaviest track so far! No time to rest here!

I Left My License in the Future is a catchy rocker, filled with sharp guitars, a loud bass guitar and hard hitting drums. The backings are cool! I’m sure this one will be a hit on stage!

Dead Or Alive is not a Bon Jovi cover but a song about going out and maxing it out … to discover you are only human. I got that feeling sometimes too, it pops up with getting older. I hear a nice 80’s rock sound with a bluesy touch.

Can You Feel It is an 80’s stadium rock song with a fat sound! Just listen to the guitar sound and enjoy! It’s what this band is about: good old school female fronted rock’n roll!

Bright Eyes is also not a cover, but a sweet rocking track with excellent backings, guitars on fire and good drum parts.

American Adrenaline is all about the adrenaline rush, has great guitar play, excellent backings, the perfect tempo and dito sound. I’m sure this is the perfect track to end a gig with.

Well: it as a blast. Honestly: didn’t expect it and am still thinking the previous album was better (but hey it’s their best one ever). I’m sure seeing them on stage will be a blast!
