TRICK OR TREAT – Ghosted (Scarlet Records)

“Ghosted” is the album that definitely marks the new Trick Or Treat course, where the classic power happy metal mixes with terrifying and yet funny horror atmospheres. Lead by Twilight Force's frontman Alessandro Conti, the Italian band put in music some of the most famous horror movie franchise such as “Evil Dead Never Sleeps” (“Army Of Darkness”), “Bitter Dreams” (“A Nightmare On Elm Street”) or “The 13th” (“Friday The 13th”), and paid heartfelt homage to the world of comics (“Craven Road”, Dylan Dog) and video game (“Return To Monkey Island”) that shaped their imaginary too.

With a little help from their international friends Chris Bowes and Adrienne Cowan, guest vocalists on two songs, Trick Or Treat delivered just another irresistible collection of wicked, catchy and energetic metal tunes!

Lost In The Haunted House is a spooky intro, sounds like taken out of a Halloween (scary) movie and sets the tone for the rest of the album.

Craven Road starts with nice guitar and a cool 70’s retro sound. The backings sound sweet and cool. The chorus is catchy and the vocals sound really great.

Bloodmoon has already been launched with a clip and is a nice duet with Adrienne Cowan. It’s a speeded up track with guitars on fire and hammering drums whilst the backings do their best to sound like monsters and on top we get a symphonic metal touch. Adrienne is without any doubt the queen of this song!

Ghosted is not only a wink toward Ghost (the band) but fits also in here with the meaning of the word: Ghost(ed). It’s once again a funny one with great music on top and set to be performed on stage with brio! I can almost hear the fans scream the title along!

Dance With The Dancing Clown doubts between a high tempo and a more catchy song with a x-mass / happy Disney feeling. It’s as if Mary Poppins suddenly appears in a Halloween movie. There is also a spot for a more opera-minded touch.

Polybius goes fast and hard with a bit of pathos. The guitar play is excellent (and hot).

Evil Dead Never Sleeps is a hard hitter from the start (hard hitting drums whilst snare’s are melting). The synth is cool.

Return To Monkey Island starts with an Scottish touch and reminds me strongly of the pirate metal presented by Alestorm (hence they even toured together).

Make A Difference sounds sweet but yet strong and has a slice of a Disney touch: happiness at the end of the tunnel!

The 13th shows off how high and long their singer can keep his voice go up. Next to that we have a drummer on speed and guitar players who try to fight each other off.

Bitter Dreams is the last one and is a real Trick or Treat kind power ballad, at least until halfway and the metal kid takes it over. It’s a nice way to close this special album!

Well I feel it’s getting harder to deliver original and yet funny album. I feel they did their best, but this goes more into the direction of serious metal rather then laughing with things and just having fun. Is this their new direction? Or is it just one direction?
