Cloé du Trèfle + Lemon Felixe (27/04/2025, Botanique, Brussels).

English:Concerten
  Van Muylem    28 april 2025

Cloé is a longtime friend (know her from when she was still underage aka in the nineties), been following her and saw her grow and tour all over the world. Tonight is the official launch party at The Botanique in Brussels. She invited Lemon Felixe (a nice duo who sings in French, poppy tracks). For once it’s in the Museum (not in the basement, Rotonde or the big room) and yet it’s also a very cool place with a good sound and looking really great (art Deco). Let’s enjoy it together.

To start with: I was expecting our new photographer here, but … left me taking pictures with my phone. Hence the good quality of the actual phones!

Lemon Felixe brings poppy songs sung in French. It’s a lovely couple, but the first song is just her and a back tape. She has a good voice. It’s only at the start of the second song that we hear fresh guitar sound and real synth playing live. “La Loi” is the title of this song and sums up the good and the bad side of the law. Most of the lyrics of the next songs are poignant and razor sharp whilst the music is more soft, dream pop minded, floating: so mixing bitter and sweet. There is even time for an a-cappella track (a cover, but I missed the original artist), I think the name of the song is: “Les Torrents de Mars”. They close their show with a song called “Honolulu” whilst the fans clap their hands and sing along the chorus. A good end for a good warming up party!

Cloé du Trèfle starts with electronical vibes and poetic lyrics (the best way to describe her latest album). The lyrics of La Luer are floating around in this nice room: invading the space whilst the music is inviting us to dance. This song also shows she has grown up and has become the French speaking version of none less but Anne Clark. Next to the music we also get nice visuals (sometimes illustrating the lyrics, sometimes just pumping up the song). “Ton Soufle” was written at the end of her south American tour (ending in Chile, where she had to undergo a military lockdown), when she could finally leave the city was burning (literally). This inspired her to write this song and we could see some images from back then. She plays the guitar, whilst the beats are pumping up the track, keeping the people dancing. It’s almost a The Neon Judgement song!

“Virage” mixes her talent on the piano with pumping beats. “La Frontière Invisible” is a nice one where she sings high and low notes. After that it’s time for some romance (sorry missed that song’s name here), followed by “Sous Ta Peau” which is a Telex minded track with excellent beats and poetic lyrics with a romantic undertone. Time for an older track, but sadly still very actual: "Mesdames, messieurs" (taken from “Hasards de Trajectoires”). Sharp and very critical lyrics pumped up by strong beats. Next is the Telex minded song about travelling from “Bruxelles Lausanne”. “Paradoxes” takes us deeper into the electro-Wave world. “Minuit Midi” is a logic follow-up song for the previous track and keeps us in the same mood. Next is another old(er) song: “ça Tange”: without the strings/Cello and taken down to just the vocals and electronics and thus fitting here like hand-made gloves. After that it’s time to take us all out with the with the best track on the album: “Electrons Libres”. The tempo goes up and gets us to a high!

Time for call backs and yes we get a classic one: “L’amour et La Folie”: showing off her talent as a writer of funny stories and playing with words. She closes this night with a special guest! None else but Lisette Lombé (with whom she worked on an album called “Brûler Danser”). Lisette needed music for lyrics she wrote for the cultural Olympic Games in Paris. It’s this song that they bring as closure for this magical and powerful night!

It was great and I hope her new album finds it’s way towards many hearts, like it did with mine! Check out the album review and the few pics I left! Thank you Cloé for the great time!
