Chasing Embers was founded in Kyiv (Ukraine) by drummer Vladyslav Pospolitak, who quit all his previous projects to create his own band. He was then joined by guitarist Alexey Hrankyn - his mate from the last band. But the story of Chasing Embers began in 2016 when July Tallina became the frontwoman.

The topic of the title song of the album (Beckoning Call) is the issue of industrialization and human separation from the nature. The lyrics on this album are dedicated to the person`s inner world, their thoughts, desires and aspirations. The band aims to write about things they experienced in their own lives in order to achieve the utmost honesty in their songs. With this first track they open your eyes and deliver their master card. I like her voice and the melodic metal goes in as sweet fruited Kriek Lindemans into my throat. There are some grunts, but it's all kept on a low base. Desires and Fears reminds me a bit of some other great bands from Belgium and the UK: it really sounds perfect (mounted with energy and really melodic). It’s one of those songs that might hit the crowd and fire up the place during a gig. Spiritual starts with an esotheric sound but explodes after a while, calms down, changes tempo … all with sweet vocals.

High Stakes has a more rock’n roll feel but keeps the sweetness. Carnage is a piano ballad with now and then some guitars. It’s a powerful and emotional one! I adore it! Silent House is a hard rocker with a scary first 15 seconds. It draws your attention and never let go. Drown With Me has some resting points and sweet moments, but also some outbursts and dark passages. Last Night Tonight has some cool male backings, swings from hard to soft, back and forth. It sounds pretty cool. Last one is The Moonman : a rocker with some grunts and some speeding. The end is a bit chaotic and doesn’t appeal much to me (sadly). A stronger last song or a great ballad would have been much better.

All in all not a bad record: I loved July’s voice, the music and the melody lines. I Can’t wait to hear them grow and get some hits as this is the only thing missing on this album.
