Piston Damp is a Danish/Norwegian duo currently residing in Sarpsborg, Norway. The sound comes close to Apoptygma Berzerk, read further and you’ll know why!
Jonas Groth (Singer/songwriter/producer) has more than 20 years’ experience from both stages and studios all over the world, mostly connected to his brother, Stephan’s band, Apoptygma Berzerk. He also has connections to various other acts like Magenta and The Anix. Truls Sønsterud is a musical arranger/keyboardist/songwriter, connected to various bands since the late 90’s. Their new track Something In Me was written and recorded this summer, with Stephan Groth serving as pre-production supervisor. It is mixed by Ole-Espen Kristiansen (Elec This!) at STUDIO+/-, and mastered by Carlos Perón (ex-YELLO), at Liquid Gold Mastering.
Something In Me starts like an 80’s synth pop track with vocals that reminds me of Stephan Groth, but it’s actually his brother Jonas. The song has a positive vibe and might even be the light of your day once you start listening to it. The more you listen to it, the more it becomes an earworm. I hope it gets some airplay on the radio too as it deserves a wide range of listeners! The same song also has a version called Noget I Mig with Danish lyrics (and will be a great asset for the local music market). Another Pain (Blue Hearts Version) sounds like sung by Robbie Williams. It’s a soft and delicate track! Something In Me (‘Pegboard Nerds Remix’)mixes guitars with techno beats and is club minded. Same remix comes up for Noget I Mig. The rest are mixes for Something In Me. First is the The Anix Remix giving it a lifted tempo and a more modern sound with more electronics. I recognize the next version by the typical electric drums and retro synth sound: Technomancer Remix. The Kleinmelker remix sounds softer and even has an acoustic part in it. Last one is the extended Remix.
