Following on from the release of their rich and warming new single ‘NYE’, which was released on Christmas Day 2020 via Icons Creating Evil Art, hotly-tipped Gothenburg-based outfit Maple & Rye have now returned to deliver the vibrant Oliver Nelson remix of their latest cut.

Removing much of the original’s melancholy appeal and transforming it into a bold and euphoric house-inspired stomper, Oliver Nelson’s rework of ‘NYE’ gives the release a whole new feel from start to finish. While reining in much of the producer’s usual EDM dynamic, his newest offering looks to show a new side to both the band and the producer with its genre-bending aesthetic.

Speaking about the new remix, Maple & Rye said, "It feels completely crazy, exciting and fun that we are doing this thing together with Oliver. This may be our first song ever played at an actual CLUB in the future! How great is that? He has kind of taken the super simple song that is NYE, which was written in forty seconds with an acoustic guitar, and done something COMPLETELY different! In this shape, it is mysterious, complex and dark but at the same time uplifting and danceable, the whole song is wrapped in an incredibly pulsating vibe that all of us in the band look forward to dancing to. Dance with us!"

While Oliver Nelson added, "It was fun to work with something more indie-oriented, I haven't done that in a long time. Our genres blended well together."

Producer Oliver Nelson may be from Sweden and has released music and remixes on various power houses in the EDM world, but he’s far from the kind of bottle-servicey house music mafioso that those things might imply. He’s got a taste for vintage disco and a subtle sensibility that have helped him rework tracks by Tove Lo, Justin Timberlake, Marina and the Diamonds and even Whitney Houston into rubbery electronic funk that avoid the full-blast sensory overload that a lot of pop-oriented dance music falls into. He has also collaborated with the likes of Kygo, Todd Terry, Zayn, The Kooks and many more, delivering a wildly eclectic array of offerings throughout his career.

The indie folk quartet Maple & Rye released their hotly-anticipated and for many years frequently requested debut album 'For Everything', in the summer of 2020 via Icons Creating Evil Art. An album sprung from stories that need to be told, books that should be read, love relationships that need to be broken, grief over total loneliness, death, places the band's members never visited and people they love. A long process of adversity and obstacles but at the same time a journey filled with joy and love.

The band has always had a vision of keeping the music and the experience authentic, both for themselves and for their fans. Vocal harmonies and powerful melodies are blended with bombastic drums, danceable rhythms and grand choruses, in parallel with a brittleness and inwardness that contrasts with the joy and dance. It is music that changes from playfulness to intimacy and emotion.

Maple & Rye derives their musical inspiration from a wide range of influences from blues and funk to rock and folk-pop, although the most important inspiration comes from the members' own emotional lives. The band is based in Gothenburg and consists of Leo Lönnroth, Gustav Rybo-Molin, Milton Lönnroth and Henrik Bielsten. The artistic core is largely due to the fact that all the members of the group are composers, lyricists and vocalists - the band's two strong lead singers are backed in by the other members and focus is placed on careful and sensitive storytelling.
