Today the single ”First of All Pleasures” from our upcoming second album is released! I think this song is an exquisite heavy mixture of samples from old blues songs, dirty electronic basses, and sinister synths.
And what is the pleasure? The lyrics to this song emerged when I entertained myself by thinking a lot about different (possible) illusions, like the illusion of free will, the self, reality etc. But I don’t really want these things to be illusions. And I also don’t want my beliefs to be based on a bunch of so called cognitive illusions, but maybe they are? I was making an effort to pay attention to how I reason about things. Do I just want to confirm what I already believe and turn the chaos into coherent stories, or do I genuinely question things and stay in the paradoxes to reach something closer to truth? Oh, how much more pleasurable it is to confirm than to change my beliefs (and this seems to be true for most humans). So I quote Voltaire: Illusion is the first of all pleasures!
