Brooklyn post-punks BOOTBLACKS are back with a new single and they're ready to shake it up, marking the beginning of a new era for the band and closing off the previous with an exemplary new track. On today's single, vocalist Panther Almqvist states:
"'Forbidden Flames' has been a long time coming. Personally I think it encapsulates the musical trajectory the band has been on for quite some time. I think it also represents the forthcoming album and our intentions musically moving forward. We’re thrilled to introduce our new member Kalle’s guitar playing and musical influence to the rest of the world, which we feel fortunate to have been treated to through the writing and recording process."

Since the group’s formation in 2010, Brooklyn based Bootblacks have been enthralling audiences with their frenetic live shows from North America to Europe. Their sound is described as a balance of contradictions: both pensive and buoyant, referential and modern. Their first release for Artoffact Records came in 2020 to wide acclaim - check out Thin Skies here.
The band's first EP “Narrowed”, came in the fall of 2012, after having previously collaborating with Jim Sclavunos (Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds). “Veins” was released in 2016 and was described as a big step in the band’s evolution from punk to post-punk. With their influences always expanding, BOOTBLACKS is never complacent in what makes up their sound. They toured extensively behind the debut effort and started building momentum through a tenacious string of live performances.
“Fragments”, which was released in September of 2017, found the band further diving into a more synth heavy, atmospheric and “bigger sounding” Bootblacks than before. The album landed on many year end “best-of” lists and catapulted the band into a must see. This helped them land spots on festivals such as Cold Waves, Terminus, Absolution, Wave Gotik Treffen, & Murder of Crows.
