Written and recorded during the global turbulence of 2020, 'Another World' is a passion project imbued with the deeply personal concepts of home, belonging, and finding light in an uncertain world. Alongside these themes, the album is full of references and tributes to some of the influences that have shaped and inspired us both as people and artists.
It seems that Heike Langhans had a lot of time in 2020 as she recorded two albums with 2 different bands! We already enjoyed he vocal talents with Draconian. Time to focus on this new album from Light Field Reverie!
Ultraviolet is a very dreamy track with Heike on vocals and on synthesizer (that gives a a new touch to her capacities). After 2 minutes we get a slice of a doom metal touch. It's clear that Draconian fans will also buy this one and follow Heike in this at full speed! I can't believe that this song is recorded with only 3 people as the sound goes really wide. The Oldest House has a dreamy and haunting sound with a slice of a retro 80's touch (thanks to the synths). It's not the kind of song to listen to at night when you are all alone! The spoken word touch gives it that little extra. After that the song becomes a doom metal minded one. It's the kind of song that can scare you but also blow you out of your socks! It's a magical and powerful track with 2 faces! Ghost Bird explodes from the start but also keeps Heike's voice in the front. Once again it's such a beauty: powerful and yet fragile. It might even make you shed a tear. Towards the end you suddenly get screwed up by heavy male grunting, it actually scared me off as I was drifitng away and enjoying the softer side of this song. Another World sounds heavier from the start and can even be described as a real heavy metal track (with a godess on vocals). With this song she marks clearly that she deserves a spot in the world of metal (for those who still were doubting). Dreamwalker is an ethereal beauty and sounds o so fragile! All Roads Lead Home is the last track and the most epic one on the album! The dreamy ambient sound takes you out of this world and you will only wake up if you forget to take off the repeat all function. The tempo goes up towards the end and works a getting to a high. I get the positive feel from this song and the will to fight against negativity and make out something for yourself!
Well this is how Heike sounds if you let her in control of things and I must say that I absolutely adore it! I hope she can tour soon enough with her band mates and surprise us all!
