Burning Witches - The Circle Of Five EP (Nuclear Blast Records)

Burning Witches is an all women metal band. It doesn’t happen much and right now they are working on their 4th album that will be released in 2021. They are from Switzerland and thus I wander how come Melissa Bonny hasn’t joined them yet (as the past year she was part of lot of project and albums from other artists too). As I’m always open to new music I decided to listen to their new EP as warm up for their new full album!

First track is Circle Of Five and describes literally who they are. You hear in the start all the women chanting after which the lead vocals take over and she sounds a bit like as if you are listening to the newest AC/DC, but sharper and faster. I hear some Iron Maiden influences too. The general sound is catchy and cool with a lot of vocals mixed all together. I’m wandering how they will bring this one on stage. Still: it’s a hot and fuelled track and will be part of my personal playlist! We Eat Your Children (acoustic jam version) shows that they can also perform in an acoustic way and keep in interesting. The vocals are clean and top! In this version I almost hear a young version of Janis Joplin! Dance With The Devil (acoustic jam version) is also a techno hit from Belgium, but here we only hear an acoustic guitar (with a Spanish touch) and a strong voice. Black Magic (acoustic jam version) sounds tender and fragile with great lead vocals! I hear an acoustic guitar and some percussions.

Well, this EP sounds like the perfect introduction towards Burning Witches as you can hear them under different forms. I liked it and am already looking forward to hear the new album!
