[PIAS] - Singles of the week #37

The single of the week is without any doubt the new one from Whispering Sons: Vision! From the start I had a feeling this song could become a real hit on stage and now it's even a single! A good choice!

WHISPERING SONS - VISION

Taken from their sophomore (and #1 charting) album Several OthersVision is dark & hypnotizing track showcasing Whispering Sons’ unique & modern twist on post-punk. Kobe Lijnen’s guitars shifting from circular 2 note melodies to heavy rhythmic thumps, drums & bass locking in tight, leaving room for Fenne’s impressive baritone voice to explore and deconstruct the self.

This is how I described it a few month's ago:

Vision has a clear 80’s guitar sound with a very dark synth sound on top. The tempo is pretty low, but the overall feel is pretty dense. I also have a feeling that this one will be a real hit on stage, for sure if you keep an eye on Fenne and go along with her. The more the song progresses, the more it grows and the stronger it gets. The bass is as succulent as ever!

EMELI SANDE - FAMILY

Emeli Sandé has sold 6M records worldwide, 19M singles & has been streamed 1.4B times. She describes Family, the 1st track from her upcoming 4th LP, as “an ode to resilience, rebirth, and renewal”, inspired by a period of creative freedom at home surrounded by family. The track’s music video will feature choreographed dance moves from Emeli for the 1st time. “Family marks a new beginning on many levels for me. It’s an ode to resilience, rebirth, and renewal! It was created last year in my home studio, a time and place in which I felt more creative freedom than ever before. I hope that it uplifts and empowers each listener!”

LONELY GUEST (FEAT. KWAY) - ON A MOVE

Lonely Guest was conceived and put together over the last 18 months by one of British music’s true innovators: Tricky. But as he’s keen to make clear: this ain’t no Tricky album. Rather it’s a thrilling meeting of musical mavericks, all pitting their unique approaches to songwriting against Tricky’s otherworldly production. Lead single On A Move combines the tense storytelling of London rapper Kway’s with Tricky’s unique sound.

MY MORNING JACKET - LOVE LOVE LOVE

My Morning Jacket released their first single Regularly Scheduled Programming end of August, along with the announcement on the new album. The new single to be taken from that album is Love Love Love, out on the 14th September. An album that endlessly wanders into new psychic terrain, My Morning Jacket next delivers the mantra-like directive of Love Love Love, a groove-driven and sweetly euphoric track. “That one’s trying to steer the ship away from everything I’m talking about in Regularly Scheduled Programming and speak toward positivity and pure love, finding truth within yourself and in the world around you,” says Jim  James.

PLANNINGTOROCK - GIRL YOU'VE GOT MY HEART

Acclaimed artist, singer-songwriter, producer, composer, director, and DJ Planningtorock - aka Jam Rahouja Rostron - releases their newest song Girl You Got My Heart today via Human Level. A love letter to and celebration of their wife, the song comes just days after the couple’s first wedding anniversary and Planningtorock's inclusion on Lady Gaga's Dawn of Chromatica Remix Album. About the track, Planningtorock says, “Before I met Riinu I had had a pretty rough time of it regarding love. I’d been hurt a lot,  had low self esteem and gotten to a place where I was quite literally preparing to spend my life alone. So when Riinu and I met she was like a gift from the universe and yes girl you got my heart!”

ROBERT LEVON BEEN - RAPTURE

Robert Levon Been is a producer, composer, singer songwriter and founding member of the band, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club with whom he has released 8 albums and toured the world with since 2001. This solo album features original songs that Levon Been composed & recorded for writer/director Paul Schrader’s new film, The Card Counter, starring Oscar Isaac, Tiffany Haddish, Tye Sheridan, Wilem Dafoe and executive produced by Martin Scorsese. Along with the songs, Been also composed a majority of the instrumental score and both are deeply integrated into the picture, serving as an alternate narrator that helps propel the film.

BAD WITH PHONES - GHOST

South East London’s Bad With Phones launches his new single, Ghost, alongside a transfixing, wavy visual, out now on Don’t Sleep. Raised in Deptford, Bad With Phones - or Manny to his friends - received instant support for his debut track Needles, with COMPLEX describing it as “such a wonderfully odd introduction”, and his 2020 single ON1 has garnered 1.4M streams on Spotify alone. Impossible to pigeon-hole, with a genuine cult following already and soaking up all the experiences life has to throw at him, Bad With Phones is just getting started.
