Lordi - Spooky Sextravaganza Spectecular (AFM)

It’s the 5th out of 7 new albums for The Finnish monsters called Lordi. Each of these 7 albums have a different approach but are all linked to the 70’s and they also used gear from the 70’s to come as close as possible to the sound of the 70’s within the genre of each album.

SCG Minus 1The Ruiz Ranch Massacre: talks about a Massacre in the 90’s. That will be the headline of this album: horror and SF movies!

Demon Supreme mixes electronics with a heavy guitar sound and deformed vocals. It’s real booster track! Don’t listen to it and drive in the same time as you might get a speeding ticket! Re-Animate sounds in the beginning like a Michael Jackson (Beat It) reworked and re-animated with guitars. Later on it reminds me a bit more After The Flesh (My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult from the The Crow soundtrack). Lizzard Of Oz is off course referring to the well know movie with almost the same name. The guitars sound very much like in the 90’s, just as the synth. The chorus is really catchy, making it a really great track! Killusion reminds me somehow of Kajagoogoo but with a heavier sound, yet still related to the 80’s synth pop sound. Skull And Bones The Danger Zone has the typical 80’s touch but mixed with heavy guitars and deformed vocals. The creepy touch keeps them going! Goliath comes close to the early years of Marilyn Manson. It’s a nice one all fired up! Drekavac is a mythical creature in South Slavic mythology and sounds a bit like Rammstein! A Drekavac is an undead creature also called screamer or elsewhere as the ghost of a dead soldier: anyway: it’s something dark and scary! Terror Extra-Terestrial sounds like: what if ET wasn’t nice and lovely but rather into picking up a fight and into a search and destroy mission. The music sounds like into 80’s synth pop with a dark and raw edge. The next one is on the edge as it calls up the shaken baby disease and I dislike this feeling: Shake The Baby Silent. It takes us deeper into the dark and scary tales of the underground! The rambling guitars and deformed vocals give this song a special tone. The old school spooky sound fits well here. If It Ain’t Broken Must Break It doesn’t feel like it fit’s the story. The music is ok, with some beats, a synth and something that almost sounds like drum’n bass. It’s a pretty heavy track, but keeps it’s coolness. Anticlimax is literally what the title says: no monsters, no sex, no explosions …

Well: this one is not the strongest and yet not the weakest of all the albums. It’s good, but not as spectacular as hoped.
