The eighties – a decade of artistic and musical freedom! Those where the days for fans of New Wave and Dark Wave! These were the times that shaped the artistic path of Chris Pohl (Blutengel). Now he wishes to pay tribute to his musical influences: She Hates Emotions.

“She Hates Emotions is minimalist synth music with an 80's touch. The focus is not on the bombast or production, but rather on the catchy, melancholic melody,” comments Chris Pohl - and it is precisely this pure approach that bestows the highly emotional songs with their luminosity.

See the Light is the first single taken off the upcoming debut album Melancholic Maniac that is set for release on May 15th via Out Of Line Music.

Chris Pohl states about the single: “For me, ‘See the light’ really has 80’s flair! The “ohoho”, as you know it fromLaura Branigan's “Self Control”, the synth hookline... A catchy song, which, I feel, will not repel the Blutengel fans at all!
And shares his interesting behind-the-scenes details about the shooting of the video:
The video was shot primarily on location in Berlin, on the Kudamm. This is where I used to spend many hours of my childhood in the 80ies. At the movies, shopping, the Zoo, the Europa Center... This was where I used to spend my time off, because the borders were still there, and that’s how one just spent the time in West-Berlin nearby the Memorial Church (Gedächtniskirche). Besides that, there were those pretty disco lights in the club scenery... If that ain't got an '80s vibe...”

With all the danceable and catchy tunes, the She Hates Emotions album title "Melancholic Maniac" fits just perfectly: “The songs deal a lot with the fear of being abandoned or with loneliness in general, with love and death,” says Chris, who thus gives a lead to his devoted Blutengel fans.

Nevertheless: "Melancholic Maniacis certainly not a Blutengel album, but it does transmit the prime times of bands like Depeche Mode, Anne Clark, Human League, Fad Gadget, Camouflage or Alphaville into the 21st century: She Hates Emotions.

Well, folks: it's a nice introduction and it's cool that Chris unveils what took him inside the world of music and he is clearly not afraid to tell uw which part he used from another artist to make sound just the way he wanted it to sound.  The electronic drums and synths also sounds very 80's. It's a cool throw back in time, a bit unexpected but it's clear that Chris is in a very productive mood (and in times like these: it even makes sense)! Next thing is to invite David Hasselhoff, Per Aksel Lundgreen or Sabrina and ask if they want to play along!
