Implant - Phantom Pain EP (Alfa Matrix Records)

Implant took a break of 3 years and I have a suspicion that COVID-19 boredom helped a bit and our dark Electro duo got back into their cave and prepped us some great tracks! The help of internet and We Transfer did the rest!

As Anne Clark wasn’t available so they went out for sensual backing female vocals and found them at the address of HELALYN FLOWERS’ front girl Noemi Aurora. The song Phantom Pain - feat. Noemi Aurora is a very poppy track with a slice of Apoptygma Berzerk and cool electronics. As said in the intro: Noemi gives it a sensual touch, whilst Len sounds more like her sugar daddy. I’m wandering what part of his body got lost and is giving him this phantom pain. The first and basic synth bleep reminds me a bit of Jimi Tenor and his hit: Take Me Baby (but on a slower tempo). But credits goes to the counter measures (Anti-time bass: between the kick drums with the hihat, sorry about the tech approach and I hope I describe it well), something that a lot of bands (Fortification 55 for ex.) and for sure techno masters used a lot in the past! Next is the Implant tragic rmx! Here we get a more melodic synth/New Wave/dancefloor minded sound. I like it, even more as the original version! I hear a slice of tragedy and melancholia in this version too. The True Zebra rmx starts with drums and sounds stripped, until the synths gets a bit more powered up. There are more special effects on Len’s voice too. I hear a mix of minimal wave with a more modern sound. Last remix of this one is the People Theatre sparadrap rmx. I’m wandering who did it. The mix has a bigger focus on the synths and has what I describe as typical 80’s electronic drums (like Technomancer uses a lot nowadays). The tempo is a bit slower, but the bleeps gives it something catchy and also dancefloor minded.

The Sinner Has Gone sounds like into retro minimal wave from the 80’s: slow, simple, repetitive, but very efficient. Once Len starts to talk into the mic I hear his voice like almost in a natural way. The more the song goes on the more it gets a floating sound feel.

More tempo, more beats and more fun comes with the future smashing hit: The Devil Made Me Do It. This is clearly a shot in the rose and a must have for DJ’s and a MUST PLAY! WOOT! WOOT! With the Implant bonzai rmx it gets even better and crazier and o so catchy! It sounds like as If Len just unleashed his inner devil and forced him on the dancefloor with this song! This is clearly a master at work! It’s a gift from God! Tsa! Tsa Tsa! Next and on a harder/harsher level is the Vuduvox mk1 rmx! Start jumping! This one is also a possible hit! Come on folks! Grab this song and make go around the world! Last one is the Pre-Emptive Strike 0.1 rmx gets a more industrial touch, with lots of external voices (take outs from movies). The song totally changes into something else, lesser Implant minded and for me less interesting.

Now that I read what I wrote above I think I got the typical thingie called: the B-side is better and might even become a world wide hit! WOW! Implant rules! Take a dive into the great music of Implant, oeps he did it again and again!
