Rhenium – Rise Above The Sea

Apparently some artists noticed that I make a lot of promotion for the Metal Female Voices Fest in Wieze, just as I review and interview as much bands as possible (who will play in October). One of the bands who also asked to figure on this festival is Rhenium and also contacted me (if I would review the new EP)… I gave Rhenium a chance, read further after the break …

The intro called Drowning sounds pretty mysterious and is synth driven with some cool beats and a spooky voice in the background. Before we go any further I have to point out that this one is a one women’s project!  To be more precise: Rhenium is a one woman Symphonic Metal band that was founded by Cristina Pucci in March 2014. Cristina is the only member of this project and she therefore writes all the songs, along with recording al the instruments and vocals herself. Once you know this you can only bow for this lady! She looked hard for good people and tried to form a band, but in the end she decided to do it all by herself.

Nobody can Hear Me is for that reason a true song, coming from her heart, filled with real emotions. This is her dream becoming reality and I like it! Listen to the lyrics and read the past sentences again and you’ll be able to confirm my thoughts. Sound wise it comes indeed close to symphonic rock. More than words can say sounds magical and very fragile thanks to the great vocals, the piano and the symphonic feel. It’s a fragile ballad with a symphonic goth/rock top. Watching over me is a true piano ballad where you can feel the fragility and the tenderness. The vocals go pretty high without losing the right chords. At some point the sound gets lifted by the guitars and drums and reaches a climax before ending with a vocal boom!

Once again has a more dramatic vibe with a gothic rock touch and great vocals. It won’t be easy to perform due to the high tones, but that is something we need to await! Rise above the sea is cool title track and also the perfect end song for this EP: it has the power, the energy, the right symphonic feel, a nice piano, a higher tempo and guitars & drums on fire! It’s the perfect bomb and the perfect proof of her talents!

Still can’t believe she did this all alone! Listen again to all the details, the mixing …

I take my hat off and bow! Congratulations with this first pearl!
